The Process of Raku

Raku is a ceramic process that dates back to 17th-century Japan. The term implies ease, spontaneity, and pleasure. The raku firing process is quick compared to most ceramic firing techniques. 

In the late 1950s, raku was Americanized by Paul Soldner and a host of other ceramic artists. Colleen Black Semelka explores this contemporary art form.
